Grate Reed is a homonym puzzle game devised by my wife’s 87-year old grandmother, Laura Beck. Before she retired, Laura was a remedial English teacher; she found that homonym games helped her students get interested in language and back on track in their studies.
The site is called Grate Reed because it is one part of one of our favorite homonym pairs. A Grate Reed could be a cattail growing out of the sewer, as shown above. Its match - a Great Read - is hopefully what you’ll find this site to be.
All of the illustrations on this site are from Benjamin Schwartz, who blogs some of his work at Wacky Fun Comics.
