What’s a Homonym?

Homonyms are words that sound the same but are spelled differently and mean different things.

For example, “No” means no, but “Know” means understand. To, Too, and Two are also homonyms of one another.

A homonym pair occurs when a two completely different but logical phrases can be constructed from two separate homonyms.

One of our favorite examples of this rare lexical treat is the pairing of Grate Reed - say a cattail growing from the sewer - with Great Read, which is something we hope you’ll find this site to be.
